Beaver: Meeting Change (September)

Hi all,

We now have 11 children registered for Beavers in "A" Colony. That means that with only two (2) leaders we do not meet minimum ratio.

Scouts Canada's first priority is the safety and well-being of the children. In addition, having a good child to leader ratio means your child will get more from the program. The policies that are put in place such as the ratio and two deep rule, help us to achieve these goals.

So, we have discussed the situation with Eric Funk, copied here. He is the contact leader for "B" Colony. For the month of September, our three meetings will be held jointly with "B" Colony at All Saints High School on Kanata Ave.

We're hoping that by collaborating during the September meetings that will provide sufficient time to find new leaders to help with the Colony.

This is where you can help be part of the solution!

We are appealing to the parents of the children in order to have more volunteers step forward. This program is for your child.

Being a leader means you help plan the sessions, help during the sessions and help at the special events. You won't be tasked with everything, as the saying goes, many hands make light work.

There is also the requirement for a police records check and required training (the training is online - very convenient).

If we don't have more volunteers step forward to become leaders, we will need to merge the two colonies for the remainder of the year.

It is common throughout the year to have a number of meetings / activities linked with the other Colony. For example, our investiture ceremony and our Halloween party to name a couple. We can think of this approach as increasing the linking activities earlier in the year and a little more often.

Amr, Eric and I believe this approach will be the best option for the children to get the most out of the program.

If you would like to see "A" Colony return to SLPS, now is the time to step forward.

I will happily speak to anyone who is looking for more information about being a leader or field any questions or concerns with the proposed approach.

Simply send me a phone number and the best time to call or call me at 613-841-3396 (this number rings my home and my cell at the same time).

Yours in Scouting,
Louise Foley
